Facility Improvement Grant - Expression of Interest

About this grant

This funding supports changes to community facilities or assets to help residents participate more in community life or improve the environmental performance of the facility.
Two types of grants are available to this category with different requirements:
   • Small grants: Up to $10,000  (application opens in January 2026)
   • Large grants: Up to $40,000. (complete this form) 

Applications must address at least one or more of the Community Grants Objectives and be for a facility located in Merri-bek. Read the Grant Guidelines

   • Preference will be given to projects that meet the Funding Priorities.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this grant groups must:
   • Be a not-for-profit community group, organisation or club (government or corporate organisations will not be funded)
   • Be incorporated or auspiced by another incorporated organisation
   • Have adequate Public Liability Insurance
   • Have acquitted previous Council grants and have no outstanding debts to Council.
   • Be able to meet the conditions associated with receiving the grant.
   • Ensure the proposed activity is consistent with Local, State and Federal laws, including the Disability Discrimination Act and relevant building regulations.

What funding can cover:   
   • Indoor or outdoor building materials,
   • Costs of permits or audits,
   • Contractor fees (such as builders, architects, building surveyors etc.)

What cannot be funded:
   • Facilities where there is little or no public access
   • Purchase of land
   • Regular maintenance work (e.g. general painting, replacement of fixtures, drainage, roofing)
   • Equipment, except as part of a wider facility upgrade
   • Wages or salaries for project management, unless an external person is appointed to manage the project.
